Follow the Moon

CD Review

by Caroline Harry - Sep 2002

I received my copy of 'The Happy Cats' FOLLOW THE MOON cd this morning and all day I have played it on various cd players around the house as I have moved from room to room. FOLLOW THE MOON has to be one of the best albums I have purchased in a long time. Even though it only dropped on my doormat this morning, I feel as though the songs have been in my head for years. A simply stunning album with Marty's powerful, warm, sunny voice a delight to listen to, with the instruments used (including the fantastic Rach Rhoades on fiddle) complimenting the 'marriage' perfectly.

Some songs have a slight country feel to them, some celtic. Each song offers a different 'feel' to it.

'Tap it out Danny' reminded me of my much loved late grandpa, who as it happens, was called Danny. A lovely song that has the toes tapping.

I did wonder if the album would sound like Marty's days within Lindisfarne. But this album is fresh, bursting to the brim with new songs to delight.

I have seen the band live, and they do some great covers of other artists songs. F.T.M goes to show how well established  this 'new litter' have become in such a short length of time. I praise the day Marty stood in Brian's kitchen and suggested they knock out a few songs together and started jamming.

This 'Slightly Country, Celtic, Rootsy, Feel Good Album' gives you an idea of what the atmosphere might have been like in the recording studio. It must have been magical so hear this 'Pedigree litter'  create their first album, and I hope it will be the first of many.

It demands attention as it rubs around your ankles and purrs at you, an album that will be loved by all that hears it I'm sure. Yet another fine example of the rich talent that derives from the North East.

I wonder how long it will be before future artists will be covering Happy Cats songs.....Hmm?
