The Happy Cats - what can you say? Well for one they are the best live band you are ever likely to listen to and they proved it again at the Dog and Gun in Bishop Auckland on Saturday the 7th of September.
You had us dancing clapping and even singing - now that takes a bit of doing to get my wife to sing and tap her feet, let me tell you. You had Tony up singing with you which at the time he had had quite a bit to drink but to his credit he carried it off quite well until he started dancing with this lass and spilt his beer over himself and just missed my dad by a whisker, now what band can do this to an adult? A bloody good one let me tell you.
At the break I bought the new album Follow the Moon and had the privilege to get it signed by the band and asked Marty to play the Keel Row which the band played which made my night. Thanx lads.
After the gig was over I got talking to Brian and he told me that he started playing the bag pipes when he was a young lad but never really took them up full time. He also told me he made his own set of pipes which takes a bit of doing, I would have thought.
Well, until the next time the band plays at the Dog and Gun on the 20th of December a winter cloud will appear over Bishop Auckland until the Happy Cats come back and make the clouds disappear and put a summer smile over the faces of Bishop Aucklanders everywhere. Thanks very much lads for a good night.
P.S. Could Brian bring his home made bagpipes to the Dog and Gun on the 2oth of December? I would love to take a look at them and who knows if you ask Tony he might bang out a few tunes on them. Cheers David.
