Well - what a night that was! It's been a few months since Judith and I have had the opportunity to get to see the band (New Years Eve in fact!) and what a transformation - I'm sure it wasn't only the addition of Carly and Rachel to the line-up (although, let's face it they are really good with their excellent fiddle playing and certainly add an extra dimension to the music! The addition of some backing vocals from the two ladies was also great). The set list was brill - the band seemed to revel in singing virtually all (or was it all?) of the Take My Hand CD which sounds even better live than on CD. The crowd were up for a good night and certainly proved it when asked to sing (or providing the backing vocals unasked in 'Walkin' Down the Road' - something which our friend John Grenfell used to have to do on his own when the CD was fairly new and unknown by the majority of fans). How great that the whole of the crowd last night were able to sing along to all the Cats' songs word perfectly! To me, the Bank Suite at the Maggie Bank suited this gig so well. A nice cosy sized venue with some good atmosphere about it (must get a few more chairs in though!); good beer and friendly and efficient service from the bar staff. The food that was served looked really nice and I didn't seem to see many empty plates - I have to confess to having eaten before the gig so didn't sample the Irish stew.... Well done The Happy Cats and well done the audience for making it such a great night! Trevor and Judith
